tonight, thank god it's them instead of you

These are the estimated figures of the 2007 AIDS epidemic update, released by the UN in november. Approximately 33.2 million people are living with HIV in the world today. 2.5 million were infected by the virus & 2.1 million people died of AIDS in 2007. Of the people living with HIV, 22.5 million live in sub-saharan Africa & 1.6 million of casualties related to AIDS were african. The numbers are so huge that it's sort of hard to grasp them. But the good news is that the epidemic seem to be stabilizing & the global HIV prevalence (the proportion of people living with the virus) appears to have levelled off.

I've had the idea for this embroidery in my mind for quite some time & now that it's done it feels a bit... small, in some way. The original idea was to cross stitch little human shaped figurines representing the numbers, but that was just to much work (I'm lazy). & in a way I felt that the harshness of the numbers sort of speak for them selves... Well, now it's done anyway & the plan is to make it into a pillow case.

Sorry for the crappy picture, the colours are infact much brighter blue & red than what you see here.

P.R.D.C.T

Last update before christmas... I'm busy creating magnificent gifts for people I know (or people I want to know) so I'll leave you with this little piece. Patches don't get more punk rock than this.

join the revolution sisters!

Pat Robertson, founder of the Christian Coalition, is one of the funniest men alive. He probably doesn't know it himself, but if you look at this list of quotes, you'll understand what I mean. The best part of this quote is of course that when you think about it, he's actually not that wrong... iId say that he's captured the essens of feminism with this, even though I'm still a bit confused by the witchcraft part.

reclaim the street (art)

I'm guessing that you all know of Banksy, so I won't bore you with the details. It's another just-for-fun-project that I've planned since I started cross stitching. Had a lot of trouble getting the pattern right when I tried to do it att Dark Lilac's chart generator, But then I found this free one at Fuldesign. Since I don't have a printer I had to copy it by hand from the PC screen, so the finished piece is not exactly the same as the pattern... just almost.

I promise that I'll get something a bit more original to show you in the near future...

blogger, we have a problem

Can someone please tell me what I've done wrong with the uploding of the last two photos? Or is it just me that gets the "save/open question" when I click on them, instead of a link to the page with the photo?

when in doubt, just ask yourself; what would buffy do?

The first in a series of the carachters from BtVS. I found the stencil for it at Outlines of a revolution, that has a lot of stencils that are pretty easy to make into cross stitch patterns (& even easier if you use the chart generator at Dark lilac). Now i'm just looking for suitable portraits for the rest of the scooby gang...

& once again, thanks to Radical Cross Stitch for the useful links.
